2023 Cadillac Lyriq: Why Its Sold Out Until Summer 2022
Rumored to have sold out in minutes, we look at why the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq EV is so popular, and when you will be able to get one of your own.
Remember the good old days of “Black Friday” sales? Stores would open their doors at 6:00 am on the Friday after Thanksgiving to start the Christmas shopping season. They would offer special deals and people would line up for hours ahead of time to take part.
You can still go see the videos of pandemonium at stores as people fought over the small selection of toys or TVs on sale. The internet has helped to make “Black Friday” shopping a little safer.
When the Cadillac Lyriq EV went on sale recently, you might have thought it was “Black Friday” all over again. There was an online stampede for the car! Why is that and what makes the Cadillac Lyriq so special?
The Cadillac 2023 Lyriq EV Reservation Blitz
Cadillac opened up the reservations for its new Lyriq EV on September 19. Customers who wanted to reserve one of the 2023 Lyriqs had to pay a $100 deposit just to reserve the new vehicle.
This was Cadillac’s first move into the luxury EV market and everyone wondered how it would go. Cadillac promoted the event and the car, and when the online doors opened, an incredible thing happened.
Cadillac originally said they sold out of reservations in 19 minutes. However, when they looked back at the original data, they had actually sold out in 10 minutes!
Cadillac didn’t say exactly how many Lyriqs they were offering, but 10 minutes is still an amazing time to sell out. This communicated to them the strong desire for luxury EVs across the country.
The Cadillac Lyriq EV Details
What makes the Cadillac Lyriq EV so special? The futuristic and luxurious design seems to have caught on with plenty of people. The battery-electric vehicle sits on top of the General Motors EV-dedicated “Ultium” platform.
The 100-kW battery pack in the Lyriq promises a lot of power and range. Cadillac gives an estimate of 300 miles in range for the vehicle. This comes with a 340 horsepower engine that has 325 pound-feet of torque.
The battery has a fast-charging capability which will use a 190 kW power source. This promises 76 miles of range with a 10-minute charge. The home charging option with 100 amp brings an average of 52 miles per charging hour.
The Lyriq has a sporty SUV design with 20-inch standard wheels that are pushed to the corners for performance and stability. The 736 LED lights that the Lyriq has on the front and back make it stand out in every way.
Cadillac has a new take on their classic crest-shaped grille and puts vertical headlights and taillights on the design. The grille lights up and has an illuminated Cadillac crest.
Inside the Lyriq EV, Cadillac demonstrates its refined touch, but with some new tech. The dash in front of the steering wheel is a 33 inch curved LED display that showcases all the capabilities of the Lyriq.
The display offers a touch screen on each side with the middle showing the speedometer and plenty of other features. The display is impressive but doesn’t distract you from your driving
Cadillac’s Commitment to EV Tech
With the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq EV, Cadillac has begun a big shift toward the EV market. They have confirmed four more EVs coming soon. Some experts expect Cadillac to become a full-EV brand by 2030 if the market stays strong.
They are making changes to their Spring Hill,Tennessee plant in order for it to become their main manufacturing plant for their EVs. This facility currently makes the Cadillac XT6 three-row SUV and the XT5 compact crossover.
Cadillac just went through a restructure where they asked dealers to invest in the tech for the conversion toward more EV vehicles. They also offered dealerships cash incentives to close shop to bring their total numbers down.
The reason for this is the EV change could mean a possible loss of revenue for the dealers. EVs often require less maintenance than internal combustion engines. They don’t need oil changes or tune-ups.
Some of the smaller dealerships around the country closed, but Cadillac saw an increase in dealerships. Exclusive markets like Silicon Valley and Beverly Hills are opening dealerships again.
These are areas that Cadillac has not been in for a while, but these new EV vehicles are drawing interest. The Lyriq starts at $60,000, which is less than the starting price of their competitors.
How to Get a Lyriq EV
Your Cadillac dealer is the place to get a Cadillac Lyriq. Even though the reservations are sold out, this doesn’t guarantee the people who made the reservation will buy the vehicle.
You will want to connect with your local dealer and let them know you are interested in a Lyriq in case one doesn’t get sold. You can add your name to the waiting list in case one becomes available.
The Lyriq has room for five and the back seat is only two inches shorter than the Cadillac XT6 three-row crossover. The back seat has 39.6 inches of legroom, so there is plenty of room for the back row passengers.
The first offerings of Lyriq will have two interior colors available: Stellar Black Metallic and Satin Steel Metallic. If you want a different color, you will have to wait.
These first models will also come with Cadillac’s synthetic leather seat covers. Real leather won’t be offered in these first models.
They will also be rear-wheel drive with an all-wheel-drive option coming later in the year.
